Federal prosecutors have filed a lawsuit against a New York City co-op board over its rules for an autistic boy who needs a dog.
The lawsuit says the board at the Townsend House on Manhattan's Upper East Side should make an exception to its no-pets rule for 11-year-old Aaron Schein.
Wednesday's lawsuit says Aaron has been diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome and has been prescribed a service dog.
The co-op board imposed tough restrictions, including a rule that the dog couldn't be left alone in Aaron's apartment for longer than two hours.
